How do I get from Split Airport (SPU) to the center?
The airport is located in Kaštela, about 30-40 minutes from the city center. The cheapest option is the official airport shuttle bus that drops you at the main bus station (next to the ferry port). Taxis and Uber are also available.
Can I drive or park inside the Old Town?
No. Diocletian's Palace and the Riva promenade are strictly pedestrian-only. If you rent a car, parking in Split is notoriously difficult and expensive. Look for hotels outside the palace walls that specifically advertise private parking.
What are the beaches like?
Bačvice is a rare sandy beach, which makes it very popular and crowded. Most other beaches in Split (like Kasjuni or Žnjan) are pebble or rocky beaches. Water shoes are highly recommended.
When is the best time to visit?
May, June, September, and October are ideal. The weather is warm enough for swimming, but you avoid the peak summer crowds and intense heat of July and August. Many ferry schedules are reduced in the winter.
