How do I get around the island?
The High-Speed Rail (HSR) runs down the entire west coast, connecting Taipei to Kaohsiung in under two hours. The standard TRA trains service the entire island, including the scenic east coast.
Do I need to rent a car?
In Taipei and the major western cities, absolutely not—public transit is excellent. However, renting a car or scooter is highly recommended for exploring the east coast, Taroko Gorge, or Kenting at your own pace.
When is the best time to visit?
October to November (Fall) and March to May (Spring) offer the most pleasant, mild weather. Summer (June to August) is extremely hot, humid, and marks the beginning of typhoon season.
