How do I get from Vienna Airport (VIE) to the city?
The City Airport Train (CAT) takes 16 minutes to reach Wien Mitte station. Alternatively, the standard ÖBB Railjet trains take 15 minutes to Hauptbahnhof and are significantly cheaper. Both are excellent options.
Do I need a hotel near Schönbrunn Palace?
No. While Schönbrunn is Vienna's top attraction, it is located quite far from the other major sights. It is much better to stay centrally (Districts 1-7) and simply take the U4 subway line for a half-day trip to the palace.
Is Vienna's public transport good?
It is exceptional. The U-Bahn (subway), trams, and buses are clean, fast, and frequent. Buying a 24, 48, or 72-hour pass makes getting around incredibly easy, meaning you do not have to stay in the most expensive central district.
When is the best time to visit?
Spring and Autumn offer pleasant weather. However, Vienna is spectacular from late November through December when the city is covered in world-class Christmas Markets (Christkindlmarkt). January and February are very cold and quiet.
